Simon grew up an orphan living in care homes. Baz also describes his tail at the base a 'proper handful' and 'sensitive' (as in, it gives Simon sexual pleasure when rubbed, etc.) as written in Any Way The Wind Blows. According to Baz, it tends to slash around when he's upset. Later on in the book, we see instances of Simon controlling his tail.

It's not even a dragon tail-you gave yourself a cartoon devil's tail. It is red, long, and has a black spade at the end. His tail, however, is not similar to that of a dragon. His wings are described as 'red and leathery, with grey spikes at the hinges.' They are similar to those of the dragon that attacks Watford earlier in the book, possibly because Simon was thinking about the dragon when he created them. Though Simon is considered a Normal and is unable to open the gates at Watford, he has a tail and wings that cannot be removed by magic. Towards the end of Carry On, Simon loses his magic in the process of defeating the main villain of the series, the Insidious Humdrum. He is at least three inches shorter than Baz. He stands at 5'10' (180 centimeters) tall.

In a description on Simon, Baz says that he has 'three moles on his right cheek, two underneath his left ear, one over his left eye, and then some'. He has blue eyes, and is said to have some moles on his face. However, in Wayward Son, he lets it grow out. His hair is cut short on the sides of his head and longer on the top. But I’m certain I will re-read this book and the whole series again and again. I actually have a few questions and figure a few things might have been done another way to make the story even better. But it likewise gives every individual person an intriguing arc of growth. The connection among Baz and Simon was the focal point of the story. Overall, I enjoyed Any way the wind blows by Rainbow Rowell just as much as I expected. Regardless of this flaw, the development of their relationship in this book was a delight to read and made me happy for them. It would have made some of the turn about in their relationship appear to be less unexpected and extreme, particularly in case their was a slight time gap between the two stories. If I have to address one major complaint, I think the initial part of this book should have really been the closure of the previous novel. The initial part of this book proceeded with their relationship issues from the previous novel with the remainder of the book focusing on how they defeat them. They truly were extraordinary together, which I was glad about after how horrible they were together in the previous novel.
