I really enjoyed this book and will likely relisten to it multiple times. Lydia mostly because of her banter with Chris. Which character – as performed by James Patrick Cronin – was your favorite? In this book we go into great detail about how 'magic' works, who the main antagonists of the series are and other such things and having read a LOT of urban fantasy I can say this is one of the better lesser known series. The first book was good but it lack it's own signature style that made it stand out from the average 'dude discovers the supernatural and falls in love with supernatural uber hot chick'.

This is the book were the series starts to form its identity. Having marathoned through the series I will say this is were things go from good to great. Would you listen to Demon Driven again? Why? The women are all stacked, and better than Victoria Secret models. If they are white, well then it's a generic placeholder description and carry on. 'I got home and did some domestic crap.' I mean, why even include that sentence? What value does it add to the plot other than extra word-count? And the men are never described unless they are non-white. And you can totally tell it was written by a white guy, for other white guys. He has this superficial low self-esteem: 'ooo, I've taken my shirt off but I don't understand why all the girls are staring at me, poor me, I'm such a freak', without any of the real hangups or low confidence that come with actual low self-esteem. The flaws that he allegedly does have are the kind of non-flaws a person would confess to in a job interview - doesn't think he's handsome, has a metabolism that's 'too fast', estimates things too accurately. I mean, some of these are plausible vampire or werewolf traits - seeing in the dark, increased strength and speed, super-healing. He can jump from a helicopter without needing rope. He can shoot equally accurately, with either hand, while not looking at his target (really?).

He can estimate distances with decimal accuracy, which is like 'so irritating' that he's just started rounding off (seriously?). He still believes people stare at him because he's a freak, and not because he's ripped and handsome. This guy is muscular with 1% body fat, but sadly has to eat like a bazillion calories a day or he would starve to death because of his super-duper metabolism. I had no idea a Marty Stu could be even more Marty Stu-esque. I spent so much time rolling my eyes during this book, I nearly fell over, several times. Good grief, this one is worse than the prequel. Marty Stu takes Marty-Stuing to a whole new level
